RuneScape's long-awaited Archaeology skill is without a doubt one of the most hotly anticipated additions to the hit MMO in some time. The 28th skill challenges you to excavate five dig sites in the hopes of uncovering priceless relics and artefacts. As you go about doing so, a new storyline that's connected to the world's creators, the Elder Gods, will gradually unfold.

Rooting around the excavation sites can be a great way to unlock handy perks such as infinite run energy, adrenaline boosts, and more.

You're also going to be able to find ancient training methods for some of your other skills. For example, Ancient Invention helps you to uncover ancient tech and blueprints from which to craft new devices and perks, while Ancient Summoning will let you bind the demonic slayer creatures out in the wild.

There's also a new skilling pet called Archie, who is of course a mummy.

"Archaeology is so much more than a skill – every dig site will tell a story, which will bring multiple new areas and significant new ways to play RuneScape when it drops in-game on March 30th", said Dave Osborne, Lead Designer on RuneScape. "As players empower relics, uncover artefacts and improve their Archaeology abilities, secrets of a future story arc will unfold".

The skill's level cap sits at 120, and while the update will be accessible to all, the free-to-play cap will be level 20, allowing you to try it out for roughly two hours. More info on the class itself is set to arrive prior to its launch on March 30th.

If you're yet to delve into its rich fantasy world, you'll find RuneScape Mobile available for download now from over on Google Play. More info can be found on the game's official site
