App Army Assemble: Run-A-Whale - Alto's Adventure but with a lot more whales

| Run-A-Whale

Run-A-Whale is an endless runner in a similar vein to Alto's Adventure. You play as a pirate captain who's riding a whale for some reason.

The goal is to survive for as long as you can. You tap to dive into the water, release to soar in the air, and try and avoid all obstacles in your path.

Along the way, you'll gather up coins which you can spend on whales and hats. Who doesn't love hats?

With five bosses to defeat, a variety of environments to witness, and a beautiful day and night cycle, Run-A-Whale is well worth a look.

But what did the App Army make of it? Read on to find out.

I'm really enjoying this. It's an endless runner that takes the best elements of games like Jet Pack Joyride, and Alto's Adventure, but adds new obstacles and things to look out for to get a boost.

There's a similar objective system as well, which I like.

It's really hard not to like this game. There's so much going on in the background, and you can almost interact with everything around you. It's a really fun ride and really beautiful too.

There are tons of achievements to collect, boss battles, weather changes, and boosts - all for a killer low price.

You have no excuse not to have this gem on you device.

This is really beautiful in design but the RNG is killing me. I've played quite a bit to try and give an honest "blurb" here and have gotten quite far in runs but I'm stuck at level 1 as a coin magnet has never appeared.

This is enough to make me delete it from my phone as there doesn't seem to be a way to progress.

I think Run-A-Whale is a perfect infinite runner. I love the day and night cycle, pirate and ocean theme, and the humour.

I had a bit of lag on my iPad Air but other than that everything runs smoothly.

Farjad Farabi

This has amazing visuals - especially the water which looks stunning. The controls are unconventional, but intuitive and fun.

My only gripe is that I wish the game would better differentiate between obstacles and collectables.

Overall, I enjoyed the game, and would definitely give it a thumbs up.
