Details are as yet sketchy but we've been told about a new iPhone game that will be targeting the gritty crime vehicle genre that's already being contested by the likes of
Car Jack Streets and will be by Gameloft's
Gangstar: West Coast Hustle.
Codenamed
Route 666, it's described as a topdown action adventure urban crime racer game.
It's in the early stage of development at Dundee studio Cobra Mobile – which incidentally is located a mere mile from Tag Games, the creator of
Car Jack Streets.
Key elements of the game will include cutting-edge graphics and a striking visual style, enabled by a new engine developed specifically for the purpose. These will apparently be combined with deep gameplay and an engrossing plot.
Even more intriguing is the plan that the game could become a multi-platform release, which we take to mean iPhone and iPod touch but could also involve a super-charged iPhone 3GS version, and in time, Sony's digital-only distribution channel for its PSPgo handheld.
Obviously, though, the
PSPgo isn't released until October so we'll have some time to wait before we see whether
Route 666 lives up to its ambitions.
