[UPDATE] Rock Band on iOS will 'no longer be playable' from May 31st

UPDATE: EA has subsequently told us that "Rock Band for iOS will remain live - the in-app message users received yesterday was sent in error." Original article follows:

Mobile Rock Band fans: you'd better take one last run at that Everlong high score, because your strumming days are numbered.

According to a recently spotted in-game pop-up, Rock Band will be unplayable on iOS devices from May 31st onwards.

The game, which burst onto the App Store stage back in 2009, offers a playlist of 32 classic rock anthems to tap along to, and a hefty library of additional hits which can be bought via in-app purchases.

There is no word on whether the same fate will befall Rock Band Reloaded for iOS, though fan site RockBandAide is awaiting confirmation from EA Mobile.

Brothers in arms

The news of Rock Band's 'retirement' comes just days after another popular iOS title, the free-to-play FPS Eliminate, bade farewell to the iOS scene.

Eliminate players received a similar in-app message to the Rock Band pop-up, stating that the game's servers will be shutting down on May 25th. The app has since been removed from the App Store.
