Gameloft's bringing Rayman 2: The Great Escape to iPhone

As I remember it, Rayman 2 was the best of the French Mario games.

More advanced than the 2D debut but without the complications that came with later games, it offered neat, colourful 3D platforming.

Still, I'm not sure it's a game I would necessarily bring back for iPhone. Then again, it's probably not designed for people who played the original, and - let's face it - there's no Mario on iPhone either.

From the limited information available, the iPhone version seems to be a direct port with virtual joystick and touch buttons for control.

You get to bounce around 45 levels, solving puzzles, collecting lums and throwing energy at robot pirates. Oh, and jumping and climbing around, swimming and water skiing.

See what it will look like in Gameloft's trailer.
