After RAGE: Carmack talks racing and Quake on iPhone

iPhone and iPad graphical marvel RAGE: Mutant Bash TV may have come out only yesterday, but id Software’s John Carmack is already getting excited about future work on the platform.

The daddy of Doom, who brought Doom Resurrectionto iPhone, has plans for at least two more games he wants to make before Rage-proper hits home consoles late next year.

One is a racing game, featuring the post-apocalyptic shooter’s dusty dune buggies. “Taking some of the wasteland material and having riding along in the dune buggies, jumping over ravines, that kind of stuff,” Carmack told Joystiq.

Carmack also wants to do a spin-off of hugely popular multiplayer shooter Quake 3 Arena, probably focussing on the game’s iconic lightning gun. “Call it 'Lightning Arena'” Carmack suggests. Unlike the on-rails Rage, that one would let you roam around at your leisure.

“I've got things I want to try there,” Carmack says of his latest love, the iOS platform. “Both from a networking technology standpoint and what we could pull out of that.”

“I just don't know when the hell I'm going to find time for all of this."
