If you're a massive fan of rock-hard arcade shooters from the '80s, you'll be pleased to read that retro specialist DotEmu will launch R-Type on iOS at midnight this evening.
For those of you who are a little young to remember R-Type, it's a side-scrolling shooter in which you guide a futuristic fighting craft through eight tough levels, battling the evil Bydo Empire along the way.
According to DotEmu, it "stayed true" to the original game while working on this port. This means that this new iOS version features all of the levels, bosses, and hair-tugging moments that made developer Irem's 1987 shooter so iconic.
R-Type for iPhone and iPad does contain some new features, too, mind.
There's a new touchscreen-compatible control method and additional difficulty settings, for example, as well as plenty of Game Center-powered leaderboards and achievements.
