Quake adaptation ready for iPhone

Homebrew programmer extraordinaire ZodTTD has just announced on their forum that a port of the id Software's classic FPS Quake has been submitted to Apple for iPhone approval.

The game has been tweaked to fit the iPhone's widescreen, landscape orientation (we're very happy to hear) and includes all audio and gameplay elements you'd expect from the maze-wandering, monster-mashing bullet fury. That said, there's no details as to whether we can expect any multiplayer action, though considering this is freeware it seems a bit unlikely.

Still, having a quick gander at the Quake gameplay video below should stir up some nostalgic excitement (the choppy video is due to the encoding, apparently, and not the game – that runs smooth as silk). Hard to believe it's been over 12 years, eh?

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
