You know what Frozen Synapse needed? Less pausing and more slow-motion.

At least, that's what I presume the thinking behind game designer Nico Tuason is when coming up with "Project CQB" - a working title, of course.

He's only showed off an alpha of this upcoming squad-based shooter but it's already looking satisfying.

It's a 3v3 face-off in which you have to command all three of your units at the same time. This is why the slow-motion is in place: so you can spread your attention between all of them.

You just tap on the unit and then tap on the location you'd like them to travel to, and they will head off. When planning movements, you'll want to make use of the maze-like level's walls for cover.

Also worth considering is how the guns your units hold will affect their accuracy. Shotguns need to be closer when shot due to their spread, while rifles are best shot from a distance, and an SMG is good for mid-range.

Although it's played in slow-motion, you can speed up time if you wish to skip moments in between conflicts.

But you will want to see the showdowns in slow-motion as each unit's body fragments and chips as the bullets tear them apart. It's a cool particle effect.

Hopefully, Project CQB will be coming to iOS, Android, and PC in the near future. You can download an alpha build for PC on its website.
