Prison Life RPG's App Store rejection will create no controversy whatsoever

For once Apple has got it right

Product: Prison Life RPG | Publisher: Nob Studio
For: iPhone   Also on: iPad

Prison Life RPG

Apple has hit the headlines many, many times for the absurdity and inconsistency of its App Store approvals policy, which has seen it banning some guns but not others, satirical boobs but not earnest ones, and so on.

But you probably won't find much to dispute in its decision to reject an upcoming jailhouse simulator called Prison Life RPG.

This sim from Nob Studio sees you navigating the grim world of prison by watching TV, defending yourself from gangs, and, er, trying to avoid being raped.

Unsurprisingly, Apple took issue with a shower scene that cropped up in the game's preview video, in which a prisoner exclaims, “Oops, I dropped my soap – Oh nooooo!”

The trailer for the rejected build of the game doesn't go into any more detail, but the consequences of bending over to pick up soap in a fictional prison shower are well established.

Like the blurred out guns in Tempo, this is part of Apple's crusade to make all icons, screenshots, and preview videos on the App Store suitable for all ages. The games themselves are subject to the traditional (though still prudish) rules.

Nob Studio has amended the scene and assured the App Store reviewers that, "The prisoners now have to wear clothes during shower and use washing powder.”

You can watch the rejected trailer here, and the re-submitted trailer here.
