Valve's Portal opened on the iPhone

But is the cake a lie?

Product: Portal | Developer: Valve | Genre: 3D, Puzzle
Portal iPhone, thumbnail 1
A rather furtive email was slipped under our door last night, which has us itching with trans-dimensional excitement.

It seems a few adventurous coders decided to test the iPhone waters by putting together a clone of Valve's smash hit puzzle game Portal - with quite impressive results.

While it's missing one or two inconsequential effects at this point, the orange and blue portals and your good friend the companion cube appear to be working beautifully.

From what we can tell this isn't official in any way, but Valve is renowned for embracing fan-made content, so it's not at all impossible that these skilful iPhone test subjects could have a cake waiting for them on the App Store.

More news as we get it, but in the meantime, here's the iPhone port of Portal as it currently stands.

Surely not?? Looks like a video of normal Portal to me, with maybe an overlay or two. Bah humbug

If you look closely you can see this version has no lightmaps, so it's not vanilla portal
Awsesome!! | 16 July 2009
Also notice when the companion cube is picked up for the first time.... on the PC version you have to have the object in your crosshairs in order to pick it up, on this version it looks to be activated by touch! :D

Not sure how well this would work on the more complicated levels - though I'd love to see it happen. It'd also be good to get that fan made 2D flash version on a handheld platform. The iPhone would be perfect for it but I'd be happy to see it on anything that fits in my pocket.

Looks pretty cool. Portal was a crazy fun game - very original.
