Match-three meets Texas hold 'em in grid-based card puzzler TowerPoker
Well suited
Grid-based iPhone card puzzler PokerTower will show its hand when it appears on the UK and US App Stores at midnight.
PokerTower is a cute combination of poker-influenced hand-building mechanics and the screen-clearing gameplay of a match-three puzzler.
The aim is to build a poker hand by swiping through cards on a grid. Each time you select a valid poker hand (pairs, straights, flushes, etc.), those cards will disappear from the screen.
Smooth callPokerTower is presented in a simple pixel-art style, and boasts four different modes.
In Time Attack mode, you build hands against the clock. In Tower Mode, meanwhile, you have to prevent your stack of cards from hitting the top of the screen. Yes, like in Tetris.
In Challenge Mode, you have to post the highest score you can with only a 52-card deck. In Survival Mode, your hands are turned into 'attacks' on imaginary enemies. Sort of like in an RPG. Sort of.
We've had a quick bash at PokerTower, and can say that it's an accessible - and pretty enjoyable - fusion of gaming genres. You'll be able to download it for yourself tomorrow for 69p / 99c.
