Merry Christmas from Pocket Gamer

A look back, and a look forward

Merry Christmas from Pocket Gamer
|
iOS + Android + 3DS ...

The Pocket Gamer team is just about to sign off for the year, so we wanted to all wish you a very merry Christmas - or whatever seasonal holiday you celebrate - and take stock of 2012.

First up, just because we're logging off, it doesn't mean Pocket Gamer will be dead for the next week or so. We've got loads of fantastic content lined up for the festive period.

Christmas presents

For example, if you are lucky enough to find a smartphone or tablet under your tree tomorrow, we've got these great guides (for iPhone, iPad, and Android) that will get you started.

They're filled with loads of useful tips that a new iOS or Android user will appreciate. We've also highlighted some essential games to get you started.

After that, we'll run down our favourite games of the year. We've picked out the very best iPhone, iPad, Android, Nintendo 3DS, and PlayStation Vita games from 2012 and written about them in separate articles. Aren't we nice?

And then, as we transition into 2013 and welcome in the new year, we'll be looking ahead to our most anticipated mobile, 3DS, and Vita games of the next 12 months.

Swipe Magazine A look back at 2012

2012 has been a big year for Steel Media, the publishing empire responsible for Pocket Gamer. Steel Media has added 148Apps to its fleet of sites, launched swipe magazine, purchased Padvance, and more.

But, it has also been a big year for Pocket Gamer itself, too. I became deputy editor in August, and since then the whole team has worked hard to make PG better than ever.

We're now more focused on the games you really want to read about. Plus, we're spending more time and energy finding stories, games, and people we think you'll dig.

We're also more community focused than ever. Our Twitter and Facebook pages are awesome, and we really like reading your opinions in articles like Game of the Week and PG Court.

Plans for 2013

But, we're not there yet, are we?

You've told us that our Android coverage is lacking - and we've listened.

Next year, we'll focus more intently on the little green robot, and make sure Android doesn't get second-class treatment on the site.

Android

We've got even more reader-based stuff on the way, too.

Plus, we've got a dedicated community manager now in the form of Peter Willington, who's got loads of smart ideas. I'm looking forward to that.

And one more thing...

We know our website design is a bit… errrr... dated. We know. But, if all goes to plan, next year we will drag ourselves out of 2002 and roll out a new site that looks amazing and has loads of cool features for mobile gamers.

Thanks so much for reading Pocket Gamer this year.

We can't wait to see what 2013 has in store for us. Whatever that might be, you know you'll be able to read about it on these pages.
