iOS + Android + 3DS ...

Every week, Pocket Gamer provides a weekly digest of the most important and popular stories from these digital pages.

July 2nd marked the middle point of the year. So, all week, we've been looking back at some of Pocket Gamer's top-rated games from 2014 on iOS, Android, Vita, and 3DS. Some systems have had a great six months, others are the Nintendo 3DS.

But with the retrospection out of the way, let's look forward to the rest of 2014 with a ridiculously extensive list of hotly-anticipated iOS and Android games for the rest of the year. I managed 100 before my fingers fell off.

If you can't wait that long, how about Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution 2, which came out this week. Then again, I found this jazzed-up re-release of Civ Rev hard to recommend with any great fervour in my reserved 7/10 review.

Monster Hunter

But Harry had plenty of love for PSP port Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, which also joined the App Store this week (and for the same price of £10.49). He called it a "huge, wonderful looking, deep experience" in his Gold Award review.

Which is why it ended up on our list of the the best iOS games this week, alongside arcade timewaster Super Ccatch and retro run-n-gun Buzz Killem. Android did even better with 99 Bricks, Blek, and Eliss Infinity.

We also looked back at the best iOS games of the month, with a top 10 for June that included such treats as Battleheart Legacy, VVVVV, and Desert Fox. Android's list is coming on Monday.

MTN

Another new release this week has left us totally baffled. David O'Reilly's surreal art installation Mountain / MTN is a weird one, so Harry's going to document his findings in a diary. Let's hope it doesn't end up like last time.

We also talked to Playdek and GMT about their upcoming iPad edition of Cold War tabletop game Twilight Struggle, which Matt Thrower reckons is the best board game you've never heard of. I've certainly never heard of it, but then again I only know Monopoly and Cluedo.

News now, and we were introduced to The Witcher Battle Arena - a free-to-play MOBA. Those two words can sometimes leave us rolling our eyes or vomiting, but Peter said its got a lot of promise in his hands-on preview.

And Dungeon Keeper was in the news this week. Twice! For starters, the British ad standards agency banned one of EA's ads for misrepresenting how much fun you'll have without paying (not much, incidentally). And EA boss Andrew Wilson called the whole game "a shame".

Monsters Ate My Birthday Cake

Oh, and we're still plugging away at our huge guide to the terrific Monsters Ate My Birthday Cake. We added a bunch of secrets, side quests, costumes, and monsters to our main guide, and solutions for every puzzle in Powder Peaks.

And finally, next week will see Minecraft: Pocket Edition get its 'biggest ever' update on July 10th, The Wolf Among Us is coming to an end, 2014's sole Platinum Award winner Wayward Souls is Android bound, and the first three Blackwell games will hit iOS.

Around Steel Media…

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite took the gold this week at 148Apps, with an Editor’s Choice award and a detailed guide to getting the most out of the game. Plus, the 148Apps team reviewed Monsters Ate My Birthday Cake, World of Tanks Blitz, Dungeon Heroes, and more. Check it out here.
