PopCap’s smash PC and iPhone hit Plants vs Zombies claimed the Best Game category at the annual Meffys Awards last night.

The undead tower defence title beat off competition from GameHouse’s Java version of another successful iPhone game – Lima Sky’s Doodle Jump – as well as Nokia’s innovative satellite imagery racer, Ovi Maps Racing.

It was a disappointing night for the GameHouse contingent, who had high hopes that Doodle Jump would bring home the award after Tropical Towers lost to Real Football 2009 last year.

In the end, though, the judges voted in favour of the Pocket Gamer Gold Award-winning anti-zombie (pro-flora) strategy game.

Meffys 2010 Games Award category:

Plants vs Zombies – Popcap (Winner)
Doodle Jump – Lima Sky and GameHouse
The Last City – Iricom
Bloons – Jump Games
Ovi Maps Racing – Nokia
