THQ Wireless to release official Star Wars lightsaber app for iPhone

If you're a Star Wars fan, we have good and bad news.

Starting with the bad, iPhone application PhoneSaber has been removed from the App Store, apparently after pressure from LucasFilm through its official mobile partner THQ Wireless.

"As of now, PhoneSaber will no longer be available," reads a post on the developer's website.

"I've had a chat with a guy from THQ Wireless... and apparently the guys from Lucas don't want it up there anymore. They didn't want to go down the attacking cease and desist route, so we're being dealt with very amicably."

Boo, hiss! But wait, we promised you some good news, and here it is:

"They want to do some sort of official, Star Wars branded version of PhoneSaber, and will be working with us on that one."

Hurrah! The post confirms that the developer removed PhoneSaber from the App Store voluntarily, rather than Apple taking it down. Meanwhile, it seems the official lightsaber app could be pretty nifty.

"THQ plans to let us have access to all the library of Star Wars sounds, etc, that we could never have used before," says the blog post. We'll watch out for it, and let you know when it becomes available.
