PhoneJoy Solutions wants Kickstarter community to fund new iOS and Android controller

Hong Kong-based manufacturer PhoneJoy Solutions is asking the Kickstarter community to donate $50,000 to fund a new controller peripheral that's been designed for the iPhone, iPad, and Android-powered devices.

The PhoneJoy Play controller (which will be available in jet black, arctic white, and a "user-voted" colour) features an extendable clamp that will securely grip your smartphone in both landscape and portrait orientations.

As you can see from the image below, it houses 14 programmable physical buttons and two "pressure sensitive" analog sticks. It will connect to your devices via Bluetooth 3.0, and will purportedly last for more than 20 hours on a single charge.

Unfortunately, the PhoneJoy Play is far from the best-looking controller we've seen. It's not the second-best-looking peripheral we've laid eyes on, either.

To be frank, it's all kinds of hideous. It appears to be overly bulky, for starters, and its buttons (especially the D-pad) look clunky.

Still, we'll reserve our full judgment until we've been hands-on with the device.

The PhoneJoy Play will be compatible with more than 300 games across both the iOS and Android platforms.

It will work with all iCade games, for example, so titles like Activision Anthology, Ice Rage, and League of Evil will play nice with it.

You can support this Kickstarter campaign by donating as little as $1, but you'll have to pledge at least $50 if you hope to get your mitts on a controller.

PhoneJoy Solutions is looking to release the PhoneJoy Play around April next year.
