Phoenix Wright released on Japanese App Store

Objection: we can’t play it

Phoenix Wright released on Japanese App Store

The Phoenix Wright series has done some fantastic business on DS. The mixture of cheeky humour and slightly maddening detective work struck a rare note with a worldwide audience.

Now it’s made the logical transition to iPhone - though only in Japan for now.

The first episode of Gyakuten Saiban! has just been released onto the Japanese App Store for a mere 115 yen (£0.80p/$1.25). Capcom has employed a clever trick to get such a deep, graphically rich game squeezed into just 2MB of data - it’s left much of the game on its servers.

The game streams the additional content in as it’s needed. Of course, that means that iPod touch users will need to be near a wi-fi hotspot in order to play the game on the go, which is a little restrictive to say the least.

Still, it’s very good news that the series has finally made the switch. What’s more, Capcom is planning to release a new episode every month or so.

Check out the official site, if you're fluent in Japanese text. We’ll be keeping an eye out for signs of an English language version.
