Retro classic Paperboy heading to iPhone

Let's hope it delivers

Retro classic Paperboy heading to iPhone

Atari's coin-op classic Paperboy has remained consistently popular since it appeared way, way back in 1983 (the paperboy must be a paperdad by now).

It's been converted to pretty much every system since the arcades, but what made the coin-op version great were the BMX handlebar controls. No other hardware has been able to effectively recreate those superb grips.

Still, now that Elite Systems has announced it's bringing Paperboy to iPhone, this could be set to change thanks to accelerometer controls.

You'll be put in the saddle of the mischievous delivery boy as he hurls newspapers at subscribers' houses in Easy Street, Middle Road and Hard Way, while dodging dogs, breaking windows, swerving around cars and causing as much mayhem as possible while he delivers the daily rag.

And, at the end, you get to hammer it through a stunt course and finish in a blaze of BMX glory.

There aren't many details on the iPhone adaptation of Paperboy yet, but from the look of the screenshots, it seems as though we'll be given the option between the classic arcade version and a new 3D mode.

It's currently pegged for a December 18th release. We'll aim to deliver more info as it comes through the letterbox.

Spanner Spencer
Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
