According to Somethin' Else managing director Steve Ackerman, Apple encouraged the studio to increase the price of Papa Sangre before its release.

"Obviously Apple doesn’t promise anything in terms of promoting games, but before the release of Papa Sangre they said they were very interested in the game, and that they might promote it."

"They asked us how much we were going to sell it for, and we said maybe £1.99. They said 'you must be joking, this is a premium app, this is worth more than the price of coffee'."

Papa Sangre eventually launched at £3.99 - which broke current industry trends - and has since been downloaded more than 50,000 times.

Premium

Pocket Gamer recently debated the price of App Store games, specifically Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions, which debuted at £10.99 / $15.99.

Some of the team - including me - believed that this was a fair price, while others didn't.

Would you skip the App Store if more premium-priced games start to rear their heads?
