We can see how it's important for a game publisher to say they were the first to do something, but it's really an inconsequential matter for the ground floor gamer. If it's a rubbish game, being the first makes no difference – we still won't buy it.
So it's really no big deal that Kiki Technology's new iPhone RPG,
PanfobiA, had its thunder stolen by the release of
Vay. Of course, some of us old UK Sega CD fan boys (and girls, of course) are still feeling quite bitter about
Vay only being available in the colonies, so news about
PanfobiA is very welcome. Even if it doesn't light a fire under
Vay's publishers to get the game to our once-mighty shores, we'll have this Italian developed RPG to fill the void.
PanfobiA can at least claim to be the first RPG designed specifically for the iPhone, and although early reports are suggesting something of a pidgin translation, the offer of over 100 hours of gameplay is pretty outstanding. Featuring old school 2D graphics and the promise of online multiplayer,
PanfobiA could kick start the iPhone's RPG potential – so long as they get it released in the UK in good time and avoid our wrath.
