In our first Oceanhorn guide, we'll take you through the opening act of the game, as we hunt down the first elemental emblem.

In this chapter, we'll get our boat, sail off to the first few islands, find some bombs, get a magic spell, and cross a giant desert.

In this guide, we'll mostly focus on the main adventure, so you won't find out about heart pieces, bloodstones, or other side-quests here. We hope to cover that stuff in future guides.

We start our adventure on Hermit's Island. Our first job is to follow a mysterious floating necklace into a cave on the other side of the island. Follow the stairs down to the beach and go over the bridge by the hermit.

Cross the other beach, and use pots and your stick to beat up enemies. Reach the north-east side of the island and enter this cave.

When you get to the locked door, turn left and wander down the corridor until you come to this area. Push the box onto the pressure plate to open the gate to the treasure chest. Open it, grab the key, and go back to unlock the door.

Stand on the pressure plate to open the gate. Wander on through and up over the bridge.

Place the two flaming pots on the two pressure plates to lower the blocks. Grab the necklace; open the chest to get your sword and shield; and flick the switch on the left to open a path to the exit. Take the ladder back to the surface.

Push the crate into the water and walk down to the beach. Open this chest to get ten coins, and then go back to the hermit to watch a cutscene. After that, go back to your tent and go to bed. In the morning, return to the hermit.

Beat up these mechanical monsters with your sword. Talk to the hermit when you're done. You'll then see another cutscene about the locations of the three emblems.

Make a quick detour into the hermit's house and use your new master key to ransack his big treasure chest. There's a heart piece inside, which - when combined with three others - yields you an extra heart container. Sounds familiar!

Head over the bridge opposite the hermit's house and open this door with your master key. Get on your boat to open the world map.

Tap twice on Tikarel to start sailing to the island. For the time being, there's nothing you can do during these sea sections, so just sit back and relax.

Maybe make some tea. Read a book. Contemplate your existence.

Talk to this chap, who wanders aimlessly about Tikarel, to hear about Withered Lands. Now, you can set sail to that area. So, get back in your boat and head to this new location.

Wander up the beach and talk to this bloke. He mentions Bomb Island, which sounds like a fun time. Get back in your boat and head to this new location. More sailing!

When you get to Bomb Island, go up to the beach and towards this building. It's the bomb maker's house. Which is a pretty excellent profession, might I add.

The bomb maker doesn't have any bombs, so has just gone down in my estimation greatly. Climb the ladder at the back of his house and wander up the beach a little ways. Slash away at all the grass until you find a hole and drop in.

Drop into the water and walk all the way around until you come to a chest. Pry it open to find another heart piece. Handy. Go back up the surface to continue the main adventure.

Go right from the bomb maker's house and wander up the cliff. Walk past the statue and past the checkpoint. Cross the bridge that passes over the metal gate and take the bridge over the river. It will break as you pass over it.

Follow the path around until you get to this next checkpoint. Wait until the spikes retract and for an arrow to pass, and then run over this dangerous area. Eventually, you'll find the mines. You should walk through the entrance.

Jump into the water, push this block one space to the right, and then double-back over the wooden bridge and cross the river using your new platform. Turn right when you get to the locked door.

Take care of these beetle buggers and then press the pressure plate in the water to open the gate to the chest. Open the chest, take the key, and unlock the door behind you.

Walk through the tunnels. If you fall through a crack in the floor, you'll have to find a ladder to get back up to the main floor.

Save your game at the checkpoint, turn left, and flick this switch with your sword. This will lower some blocks and will grant you safe passage into the next area.

After you walk over the blocks, go over the bridge and follow it through into the next room. You'll see a monster appear with a key over his head. Smash him to bits with your sword to claim the key for your own.

Use it to open the door in that same room. Take the money from the chest and hit the pressure plate to open an underwater gate in a previous room.

Come back to this room. Push the left block forward, and then push the middle block into the gap between the top-right blocks. Now, push the left block left to get past. If you mess up, hit the blue button to reset the blocks.

Go past the four torches, drop into the water, and turn into the room on the right. Another block puzzle! Watch the video above to see how it's done.

Now, open the chest, get the key, and use it to unlock the door in the room with the four torches.

Take the flaming pot and use it to light the four torches in the main room. Just walk up close to each one while holding the fire. A chest will fall down containing the master key for this dungeon. Handy.

Go back to the main room, drop down into the water, and enter the gateway we opened in a previous step. Use your master key to open the big door inside and then drop down the hole.

Beetles! Kill all of these scuttling monsters with your sword. Now, exit through the door.

Push this block to make a bridge. Cross over and use your master key to open the chest, which will yield you some bombs. Hooray. From now on, you can buy bombs from shops or find them in defeated enemies, smashed pots, and slashed grass.

Use your new bombs to blow up these boxes and then climb up the ladder on the other side to exit the room. Push the pressure plate to open a passage and then follow the path back out onto the beach.

Head back to your boat by going through the bomb maker's house. Set sail for Withered Lands, this time with bombs in tow! You should have the pumpkin seed gun for your boat at this point, so make sure you shoot enemies and mines that are in your path as you sail.

Once you make landfall on the Withered Lands, use your new bomb stash to blow up the boxes on the beach.

Push the left box forward and then push the right box off the cliff.

Follow the path around, past the checkpoint, and then go towards the left side of the desert until you come to this area. Drop into the water and swim through the gap in the wall.

Push this block forward a few spaces and then stand on the other side and push it back so it fits neatly over the coloured pressure pad on the floor. This will lower some blocks and enable you to take some stairs up.

Walk over the bridge and then hit this spiky mine a few times until it lands on the switch. This will open a gate down below, so make your way down and enter through the gateway.

Go left to find a prisoner in a jail cell. Push the block into the gap and then go up and around the walkway on the left, and push the second block so it falls down. Go back down and push the second block into the hole to free the prisoner.

Talk to Rigger. He says he'll meet you on the other side of the desert. Well, off we go!

Go right. Cross over the spikes and kill the two giants. Go up the walkway and push this block over the spike pit. Walk over, climb up the guard tower, and hit the switch to open a path on the right side of the desert. Navigate your way back there.

Go through the desert, past the beetles and orcs with crossbows. Eventually, you'll get to these three rusty statues.

Move them into this position to open the gate. Go into the next area and find the owl-faced chap.

He'll give you a spell that lets you spawn blocks from thin air, which you can use in combat and to help solve puzzles. When the cutscene ends, talk to Rigger again to get a new island for your ocean map: The Great Forest. Hoist the main sail! We're heading off.

First, we need to find a way back to the boat. Go into the cavern on your left and follow the path until you get to this room. You can use your new spell to activate the switch. Just hit the 'Item' button, tap on the spell on the left, and then tap the switch to drop a block on it. Exit the room.

After following a few puzzle-free paths, you'll be back in the desert. Head back to your boat and set sail for the Great Forest. We'll cover this area in the next chapter of our guide.
