We interviewed MythicOwl to find out the latest news about their musical app Note Fighter

This December, MythicOwl has brought a new update to Note Fighter – the musical app that helps aspiring musicians learn to read notes whilst playing along to classical compositions.

In a suitably festive tune up, the new update brings some cheerful Christmas carols like “Jingle Bells” and “Quickly on to Bethlehem” to join the roster of classical favourites like “Moonlight Sonata” and “Ode to Joy”.

What you may not know however is that Note Fighter came very close to joining the long list of dearly departed apps that have fallen into obscurity. Luckily MythicOwl saw NoteFighter’s potential and took the decision to acquire the rights and resurrect the game with a new lease of life.

We caught up with them to find out a little more about the game and their plans to take it even further.

What do you think your game offers that you can’t get from any other title on the App Store?

Note Fighter is unique because it uses a real five-line staff while still being a casual game and featuring a Steampunk robot. Players are really focused on reading the incoming notes because they need to defend Steamy. It’s really rewarding to see how you are becoming better with every play and that you unconsciously start seeing which keys you need to press for each note.

What attracted you to Note Fighter and what were your reasons acquiring it?

The aim of MythicOwl is to create titles which improve the skills of players, but are very exciting to play. We feel that traditional educational games are usually too boring for most people and we need to focus on games that we would enjoy playing ourselves. Note Fighter is a great example of a game that we really like to play which also gives something back and we had many ideas how to improve the game. On the other hand, we didn’t want to copy it and we want to be fair, so we have bought it and are actively developing it.

What new festive features does the Christmas update bring to the game?

The Christmas updates sports a winter theme and includes 6 Christmas carols with different difficulty levels – from Jingle Bells and Silent Night to Quickly On To Bethlehem. Steamy has also received a Santa Claus hat and will play the Christmas carols on the crotales. We think it’s a great way to learn those songs before Christmas – both for kids and more mature players.

How is Note Fighter performing so far and has it been meeting expectations? What is the game’s community like, and have you found it to have a global appeal?

Note Fighter has hit Top 10 in many countries across the globe and became the top musical game in Poland where our studio is located. We were very excited to see how good it performs in Europe, but also Latin America – it was quite a surprise given that the translated interface will be available next year.

Can we expect to see more updates in future for Note Fighter and if so can you share any details about them?

I can say that 2017 is going to be exciting for the Note Fighter players! We are going to add a variety of instruments, introduce many new songs and make Steamy speak foreign languages. We are also going to release Note Fighter on the Windows platforms in Q1 and create special versions of the game for different occasions. The feedback that we have received is really motivating us to keeping the Steampunk conductor in a good shape :)

Note Figher is available to download right now on Android and iOS.
