Game Freak files a patent that could be a new Pokemon game

A patent filed by Nintendo and Game Freak last year has surfaced, hinting at what could very well be a new Pokemon card game for Switch or mobile devices. The patent application features what looks like interactive trading cards featuring collectible characters.

Wading through the technical speak in the application, the patent appears to be for a card game where players collect cards and scan them into a program to create a digital rendering of the physical card. Players can then battle each other, training their cards. There’s a lot of talk of “capturing” and “evolving” the card characters which suggests that this new game will be Pokemon related.

There’s no confirmation of what this project could be just yet, or even what platform it’s meant for. There is a new Pokemon trading card game in the works for mobile devices, or it could be an entirely new game for mobile or Switch. We’ll keep our eyes on this one as it develops.
