After the recently released trailer for the Evil Dead, H.P. Lovecraft's mythical Necronomicon book is involved in yet another App Store game.

This time it's in developer Lucidsphere Media's aptly titled Necronomicon.

But instead of a focus on gore, the game looks to be more in line with the traditional Lovecraftian themes.

A single player-only game "evoking the feeling of a role-playing campaign and board game," it involves the use of virtual cards and dice as you play as a group of investigators attempting to stop an evil cult employing the evil powers of, you guessed it, the Necronomicon. A lot of love (craft)

During the game, you’ll take on a variety of personas such as investigators and innocents observers. With the help of allies, weapons, secret information, strategy, and a few twists of fate, you’ll attempt to stop the minions of Cthulhu from entering our world. However, it's no simple arcade experience. It's designed to be played in 10 - 20 minute chunks, and involves an 80+ card deck of investigators, monsters, treasures, weapons, relics, pitfalls, story cards, and special ability cards, which interact with each other in strategic ways.

And with hand painted art used for the cards, OpenFeint support and demonstrating a clear love of the whole Lovecraft universe, this looks a real labour of love by Lucidsphere Media.

Check out the trailer below for an example of the atmosphere the game is trying to create. If it looks like your type of game, Necronomicon is available now on iPhone for £1.19 / $1.99 or €1.59 using the link below.
