How about this for a video game premise...

You're a Finnish YouTube-based game critic with a friend who looks like Flat Eric. You get sucked into a retro video game and can only escape by battling enemies and ultimately defeating the game's boss, Ghostface.

Wacky, huh? Yeah.

That surreal synopsis is, in fact, a 100 percent-accurate description of NES-Retku, a pixel-art platformer from one Elias Viglione, the driving force behind Panic Art Studios.

In Viglione's forthcoming game, the focus of the story is YouTube personality Retku. If you've never heard of him, he is, essentially, a Finnish version of the Angry Video Game Nerd.

Anyhow. In NES-Retku, you take control of the titular armchair critic (who, as we previously learnt, is trapped inside a game cartridge), who must master various combos and special attacks to break free of his virtual prison.

According to Viglione, the game features numerous mini-games to spice up the combat-heavy levels, and a cluster of nasty bosses to square off against.

NES-Retku is expected to surface on iOS and Android this summer.

James pivoted to video so hard that he permanently damaged his spine, which now doubles as a Cronenbergian mic stand. If the pictures are moving, he's the one to blame.
