Following complaints from adult players of My Little Pony - Friendship is Magic
, Gameloft has reduced the cost of the Rainbow Dash character in its new freemium world builder. My Little Pony - Friendship is Magic
came under criticism from our reviewer earlier in the week for the "miserly level of reward" it offered to players.
This complaint was echoed by members of the Touch Arcade forum
, who drew specific attention to the price of Rainbow Dash, the final unlockable member of the My Little Pony
In order to accumulate the 500 gems required to unlock Rainbow Dash, players would either have to grind for a prohibitive length of time or purchase the gems via micro-transactions.
Purchasing these 500 gems via these micro-transactions, though, would cost you £34 / $44.Bronies gonna brone
Speaking to the BBC
about the Rainbow Dash complaints, Gameloft PR manager Lewis Digby attributed the negative comments to "a selected [sic] few hardcore older fans of My Little Pony
[known as 'Bronies'] who were wanting to progress through the game very quickly".
However, Gameloft has subsequently dropped the asking price of Rainbow Dash to 50 gems (or £5 / $8) - one tenth of the character's original cost.
It has been estimated that players will need to acquire a minimum of 3,000 gems - which would equate to £125 / $200 - to complete My Little Pony
's story mode.
