Hardcore off-roading sim MudRunner isn't exactly the sort of game you'd expect to hit mobile, so it came as a very pleasant surprise to find out that a mobile-friendly port was indeed in the works. We were first to cover its announcement earlier this month, and it's now arrived on iOS, with an Android version also set to go live later today.

MudRunner initially launched for PC, PS4, and Xbox in 2017, before being brought to Switch the following year. It tasks you with transporting precious cargo across harsh, inhospitable terrain without causing great damage to either your vehicle or your stored goods. While you're dealing with the whole off-roading thing, you'll need to remain wary of letting your all-important resources run dry.

There's a great sense of relief when you do eventually make it to your destination in one piece, though there's no guarantee of you ever getting that far. It's somehow both tricky and relaxing, much like other long-haul PC sims.

The mobile port boasts an overhauled UI that's been designed specifically for touchscreen play. The core MudRunner experience, however, does very much seem to be intact. You can expect heavy physics, hardcore sim elements, and a series of impressive locales to traverse. As I said in our original coverage, it sounds like a solid port, and I'm quite looking forward to taking it for a spin.

Perhaps in future we'll see a mobile port of the similarly excellent SnowRunner, which is arguably even better than MudRunner. If you have the skills and patience for an off-roading sim, you'll find MudRunner Mobile available as a premium game priced at $5.99 from over on the App Store and Google Play. More info can be found on the game's official site
