Langdell ordered to announce Edge trademark loss to licensees

Talk about embarrassing. Defeated trademark troll Tim Langdell has been ordered by a US court to inform all licensees of his trademark that he is no longer the legal owner.

Langdell has held the trademark on the word ‘Edge’ in a video game context for decades, and has used his judicial advantage to sue and hassle everyone from Edge Magazine to Mirror’s Edge. The court recently cancelled his trademark following a request by Electronic Arts.

Now he’s having to perform the humiliating task of announcing to the world that he no longer owns the word, and inform the less lucky parties - licensees who pay Langdell for use of the word - that he no longer has the power of ownership.

It’s the latest note in a controversial career, which has seen him vilified by the gaming community, hated by independent developers, and pressured to resign from his chair at the International Game Developers Association.
