In every update, Mojang brings the iOS and Android version of Minecraft a few steps closer to having the same features as its big brother on PC and console.

So what can we expect in the next version of Pocket Edition - dubbed 0.11? We combed through tweets by Pocket Edition's lead developers and scoured Mojang's Q&A video (above) to find out everything you need to know about the next update.

Some stuff might slip into future updates, of course, so take this with a grain of salt. And more unannounced stuff will appear in 0.11. But here's what we know right now.

Boats Boats

Want to get around the endless oceans of Pocket Edition? Swimming not cutting it? 0.11 will finally let you craft and ride in boats, according to this tweet from Mojang dev Tommaso Checchi.

They will be larger than normal Minecraft boats, and have a slightly different recipe to their console counterparts.

Checchi also reveals that you'll need to craft a paddle to get your boat moving, which will be an item and feature exclusive to Pocket Edition.

Road blocks Paths

No, we're not talking about traffic jams. These are new blocks that are ever so slightly lower than usual blocks letting you make paths and roads throughout your kingdom.

There's no speed bonus when walking on paths, it's just a cosmetic change. It will also replace the gravel in NPC villages.

This feature will come to all versions of Minecraft, including Pocket Edition says Jens Bergensten.

Skins Skins

Hooray! You'll finally be able to change your player character in Pocket Edition, with the introduction of custom skins.

For starters, you can now swap between Steve and new female skin, Alex. Or you can specify your own file, and the game uses the same files as the PC version so you'll immediately have a million billion skins to choose from.

And if that ain't enough, you can get skins directly from Mojang in skin packs like in the Xbox version of the game. No word yet on whether these will be paid-for packs.

Skip to the 33 minute mark of Mojang's Q&A to hear it for yourself.

Cave spiders Cave spiders

One new mob has been confirmed for 0.11 and that's cave spiders.

We know this because after Bergensten said that potion effects will be present in the next version (see above), but not potions themselves.

Fans figured out that this could mean that cave spiders (which can poison you) will be added to Pocket Edition. Bergensten confirmed this in a follow-up tweet. So, arachnophobiacs beware.

Other potion effects in 0.11 include jump boost, resistance, and speed.

The rest World edit

Mojang has shown a world edit screen that includes the option to make it permanently day time, and the ability to switch between creative and survival modes after making your map.

The game will also include additional languages including Spanish and Chinese.
