Miitomo - To Miitomo to Youtomo
|
| Miitomo

Miitomo is a strange one. It comes from one of the industry's most respected developers, but it's not really a game - it's more of a social experience.

One thing is for sure though, whilst you won't find Mario or Link anywhere in sight, Miitomo is without doubt a Nintendo product.

That Nintendo feeling

The presentation has that trademark Nintendo feel and quality, and that runs through everything in the app.

On top of that, Miitomo is entirely centred around Nintendo's popular Mii caricatures. This instantly makes the experience recognisable and easy to jump into despite Nintendo's move to mobile.

Aside from this though, the rest of Miitomo's presentation has a distinct feel of Miiverse crossed with Animal Crossing.

In fact, Miiverse crossed with Animal Crossing is about the best description I can give to sum up what Miitomo is exactly.

That's because the bulk of the enjoyment doesn't stem from the core mechanics, but from the social interactions the app encourages.

Miitomo crossing

You'll spend the bulk of your time answering questions, whilst interacting with your friends and learning about what makes them tick.

It all has a feeling of Facebook, but with random statuses and people actually walking through your front door to tell you that they love bananas.

Of course, this isn't all there is to it. Players can also do various things to customise their Miis, including dressing them up, and taking photos of their Mii posing in various different locations.

All of these actions will then earn you coins which can be used to play the various mini games or purchasing new items.

There are also IAPs if you want to buy more, but to be honest the free coins you receive are extremely generous.

Social butterfly

How long you'll want to keep answering questions about yourself remains to be seen though.

Yes, it certainly has that Nintendo feel, but without a core game, you may get bored fairly quickly, especially if you're not the kind of person who loves social media and online gaming.

However, for those who can easily spend hours sifting through their Facebook feed, Miitomo brings that social feeling, mixing it together with a side of Nintendo's trademark wackiness and quality.

All in all, if you love your social media, then this could certainly have you adding the app to your daily routine, especially if Nintendo incorporates it into its upcoming NX system.

Miitomo - To Miitomo to Youtomo

For those who love social experiences, Miitomo may be exactly what you’ve been looking for. Those who don’t though may be left bored very quickly
