Puzzle RPG Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes will enchant the App Store at midnight

After almost a year waiting in the wings, Ubisoft's much-loved Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes has finally hit iOS. The game will be available on the App Store from midnight tonight.

It was previously available on DS and consoles, where it was developed by Sword & Sworcery studio Capybara. This iOS version was ported by Tag Games.

Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes is an RPG with a puzzle-flavoured twist.

To describe it simply, you lead an army of troops in turn-based battles, and command them to attack or defend by matching up three units of the same type and colour.

It's super smart and devilishly addictive. No wonder we threw a Silver Award at the DS version.

The game's got a monstrous 20-hour campaign, which follows five different heroes - Anwen, Godric, Fiona, Aidan, and Nadia - in their quest to save the world from demons. Each has its own faction of soldiers to command.

You can also lead those troops in multiplayer. In Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes, you can engage in pass-the-handset fights, go face-to-face on the same iPad, or play asynchronous turn-based brawls online.

There are some in-app purchases. You can buy new factions for the multiplayer mode, at 69p / 99c a pop (or £5.49 / $7.99 for all five). Or you can unlock them as you play through the campaign. Up to you.

This Universal iPhone and iPad app has got iCloud support, Game Center integration, Retina display-optimised visuals, and iPhone 5 support.

Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes has just gone live on the App Store in New Zealand, which - thanks to the ever-predictable tumble of planet earth - means it'll be available in the US and Europe at around midnight.

The game will set you back £2.99 / $4.99. We'll have a full review up on the site tomorrow. In the meantime, check out our preview of the game here.

Android fans need not get too jealous, by the way. Ubisoft and Tag told Pocket Gamer that an Android version is set to follow, but the release date has "yet to be announced".
