The game plays much like Advance Wars on the DS, with its slightly caricatured turn-based strategy gameplay, only Mecho Wars takes the term 'real-time' far more literally than most other games.
The clock is always ticking, and the game adjusts itself to match the time of day. This can mean shallow depths of water freezing during the night, allowing you to move units across it, for example.
The game's been delayed as Bernard decided to implement an online mode, and is apparently in talks with a publisher to help him bring the game to the App Store.
Judging by the video below, Mecho Wars must be close to a release, and has clearly taken its toll on the developer - who takes the opportunity at the beginning of the video to apologise to his absent girlfriend.
Game looks cool :-) Indeed really 'Advance Wars'-ish. But he could have skipped the first 4(!) minutes of the video though... This game is one the watch :-)

Why aren't there more turn-based strategy games on the iPhone/iPod Touch? The genre suits the device perfectly. In my opinion there should be as many TD games as turn-based strategy games like this on the App Store. They play somewhat similarly and you don't even have to go 3D or push the graphics of the iPhone/iPod Touch. All a game of this genre needs is some story, lots and lots of unique characters/units, with deep gameplay. Fieldrunners-type of graphics are enough for the general map screen, and then of course some little animation during attacks/moves. My favorite of all time is Final Fantasy Tactics. I have to honest though, I'm not really into the characters of Mecho Wars at the moment. I don't mind cutesy anime type material (I enjoyed Baseball Superstars and Playman Track and Field), but the characters here look a little too alien and weird for me. Way way too weird. I dunno. But anyway I'm a big fan of the genre so maybe I could decide on buying this. I just hope the game's long and packed with a story, and with lots of varied units. I'll be waiting eagerly for a FFT type of game to come out, also set in a medieval-fantasy period. My second favorite is Front Mission 3. Oh my God, a Final Fantasy Tactics or Front Mission-like game for the iPhone/iPod Touch would be the BOMB!!!
