Lord of Dice is joining the recent spate of mega-popular Asian games heading to western markets. Kakao Games just unleashed a pre-registration page today for folks who want to get a jump on things. Signing up will grant you some pretty nice launch-day rewards that scale depending on how many others pre-register.

But what is Lord of Dice, exactly? It’s essentially a fantasy strategy RPG where every move is determined by dice rolls. You can collect around 200 heroes to flesh out your team using the game’s gacha system, which looks pretty standard. If you’re not into gacha games, this probably isn’t your bag, but fans of Fire Emblem Heroes and the like may want to give a try.

Lord of Dice has been hugely popular in its native South Korea, but we’ll have to see what impact it has on the North American market. It’s not the first of its kind to make an attempt on a worldwide release. Arena of Valor has hit incredible numbers in China, but so far hasn’t made much of a splash during its western launch.

A few factors could be at play here. Perhaps the audience simply wants different things. Many of these games have complex UIs and currencies that could overwhelm folks who might not be used to them. Fire Emblem Heroes has seen huge success in western markets as a gacha game, but people worldwide are also itching for more Fire Emblem in general. Familiar faces make Heroes a comfy entry-point. Regardless, we’ll be keeping an eye on Lord of Dice as it moves closer to launch.

You can pre-register for Lord of Dice on the game's official site.
