The massive success of Facebook games like FarmVille and Zoo Paradise has yet to be replicated on iPhone and iPod touch, but Capcom, and developer IUGO, hope Lil' Pirates will bring in the booty.

It's a colourful adventure that encourages you to build power and accumulate wealth by recruiting friends. As you sail the high seas you collect or steal loot in order to turn your ramshackle galleon and skeleton crew into a multi-mast force of destruction.

Starting with a no-frills ship and small crew, you're free to pirate other vessels for your own gain. Each successful mission brings options for upgrades and customisation. Missions are all timed, allowing you to spend minutes or even days on a particular quest.

Way to pay

The key to building your pirate empire lies in your ability, and motivation, to recruit your friends to carry out missions on your behalf.

Each mission achieved by your crew of scurvy Facebook dogs means more booty for you. You can even earn bonus points for sending your crew on missions that match their particular strengths, like skirmishing or plundering.

Two currency systems allow you to upgrade your ships, customise your avatar, and outfit your crew. Coins are earned quickly and easily by completing missions and special adventures.

Dubloons, an in-game currency bought using real money, lets you expedite the growth and customisation of your crew and ship.

You can also increase the value of your booty by burying it on Treasure Island. It's a risky investment, though, since friends and enemies can dig it up and steal your savings.

The extras count

In addition to the social gameplay, Lil’ Pirates features ship-to-ship combat games and mini-games to ensure variety.

Lil’ Pirates features more than 50 levels and 100 premium items including ship upgrades and custom gear.

Capcom is promising regular updates every few months as well as special seasonal and holiday items following the game's release next month.
