While the dual-stick shooter genre possibly isn't the most obvious fit for a new iOS Lego game, we're nothing if not open-minded at Pocket Gamer. Sometimes, though, scepticism has its place. Lego Hero Factory is a cumbersome, painfully slow-paced shooter with only the tiniest fist of ideas to call its own. Essentially, you're shunted from room to room and tasked with collecting enough small shiny objects to unlock doors and move on to the next identical challenge.

It's at least thoughtful enough to spice things up with a handful of different weapons, but its general air of tedium is exacerbated by awkwardly unresponsive controls, enemies that prove to be complete bullet-sponges, and often sluggish technical performance that leaves the action juddering all over the place.

Lego fans might be happy enough suffering through the experience for various codes to redeem online, but even at its asking price of zero pence there are better ways for most of us to spend our time.

Lego Hero Factory

A bland, boring dual-stick shooter that’s likely to disappoint LEGO fans and genre enthusiasts in equal measure
