I'm not a shark or a herring (apparently, both species of fish that drown if they stop moving), but I'm not really a fan of games where you can't move your character.

Sure, placed and paced correctly, that gameplay can work, but generally I think the ability to enable players to avoid trouble via motion is a prime gameplay mechanic.

So I wonder how I'll get on with Last Stand Stan, a space point defence game that's the iOS debut from new UK studio GreenBean Games.

Bunker mentality

It certainly looks interesting as you fight off alien invaders from your static position. In terms of gameplay, what seems to be vital is pausing the game and selecting the correct weapon with which to tackle the incoming waves.

Twenty levels and four bosses are promised at launch in the Campaign mode, while there's also a Survival mode, in which you can use the weapons and features you've unlocked via Campaign play. Apple's Game Center is supported for high scores.

Last Stand Stan should be out very soon. In the meantime, check out the video.
