Last Colossus is a retro-inspired action RPG in which you crash land on a war torn planet, and have to take control of a giant robot and fight to survive.

There's nine chapters of story to battle your way through, including a bunch of different enemies to face, bosses to battle, and three different possible endings.

We didn't get around to reviewing this one, so we've asked the App Army for their thoughts instead. Here's what they had to say.

Laura Egri

I like the extremely retro DOS/Spectrum style graphics, but though it's easy to pick up the battle system is too simple and needs a bit of variation to spice it up.

The game feels generally like a high score chaser that relies on quite costly upgrades and good reflexes. There's a bit of grind as the resources you collect are spent more on repairs than upgrades unless you're willing to invest some money.

Good as a small time waster if you're into simple old school action games.

Paul Manchester

Very cool visual style that reminds me of Missile Cards, but I found the gameplay got old and grindy fast. Have to agree with others that the cost of items/repairs is a real drain and a big reason I was put off so early.

It's a real shame because I wanted to love this game, but I fear it won't use up my storage space for long.

Chanandler

I have no idea what’s going on in this game. It’s my fault, I skipped through the opening dialogue and jumped into a fight. I had no idea what I was supposed to do, and I wasn't even sure I was controlling anything. I thought it was auto playing but I'm not sure.

The worst thing is that nothing really intrigued me enough to make me want to go back and try and figure it out. This one isn't for me.

Ed Davis

I’m not sure I get Last Colossus. I kind of understand the idea but the gameplay seems a bit random and out of my control.

Like Chanandler, I probably jumped too quickly into the fight but you would have thought for such a simple looking game, there would be some kind of intuition to it. There is in a very small way, but I just don’t get the point of it.

Jason Rosner

Last Colossus is a fantastic retro style action RPG. The colours take me back to the original Game Boy and the sounds fit accordingly. It assumes you know a thing or two about gaming and doesn’t try to hold your hand.

Right from the get go, after a brief intro, you're left on your own to figure out the controls. I’ve always enjoyed Game Stew’s work and I’m an old school gamer so I don’t mind this approach, but I do recommend some patience and a bit of experimentation on your part to get what’s going on here.

The story does a rather nice job of keeping you interested throughout, and the multiple endings add replay value.
