Kingdoms of Heckfire is a brand new kingdom builder that prides itself on how friendly it is to casual players.

That's not to say hardcore players should be put off. There's still all the strategy, battling, and building you've grown to love from the genre, it's just a little bit easier to slide into.

There's also a real focus on comedy, and a lot of that is down to the wacky style the developers have opted for here. That's nice, because we're a little sick of dark and moody Game of Thrones rip offs.

To help get you started with Kingdoms of Heckfire, we've compiled a list of tips and tricks to get you off to a fighting start.

Don't shrug off the tutorial

We get it - you're impatient to get to the good bits, but don't just skip through the tutorial. It helps to explain the game's mechanics in a friendly way so that you don't get overwhelmed later.

So play through it and pay close attention - even make notes if you have to. It's also helpful to pay attention to the on screen tips as well. Fight every instinct to close these immediately.

But don't rely on it too much

Eventually, the tutorial is going to be over, and you might be left wondering what to do. Well, that's where the feats come in.

Simply tap on the feats bar at the top of the screen, and the game will give you pointers on what you should do next. Eventually, you won't need to rely on this, but at first it can help give you direction.

Stockpile resources

Now that we're into the game proper, it's time to start stockpiling resources. These come in three forms: Gold, Food, and Ore, and we're going to tell you how to get your grubby little mitts on them.

From the get-go, you can only earn resources by completing adventures in the Town Hall. These are worth it though, as you might be able to grab jewels, the premium currency, as a reward too.

When your Town Hall is level three, you'll unlock the Realm Map and that's where the true resources lie. Here, you can attack monsters or Titans wandering around the world, gather from resource nodes directly, and attack enemy players in PvP to steal their resources.

The latter is dangerous though. If you lose the battle, the enemy will instead steal resources from you, so only use this method if you're certain of a victory.

You should also join a clan as soon as you unlock the ability, as these will offer protection for your town, provide extra resources from clan chests, and reward you with gifts.

Go upgrade crazy

As soon as you've got enough resources, it's time to show your city some tender loving care. How do you do that? By upgrading buildings.

Not only will doing this increase your army, allow you to train more dragons, and research entirely new features to speed things up, it will also increase your Might score.

This is a good indication of how powerful your kingdom is, which helps you assess whether or not it's a good idea to attack another player's.

You might be tempted to focus on just upgrading your Town Hall to keep unlocking new features, but we'd recommend you keep it balanced. Each aspect of the game is important, and you don't want to accidentally stall your progress.

Feed your army

Your army will live and die on the strength of your dragons and allies, so put in the time to make sure both are as powerful as possible.

Dragons are unlocked by clearing land in your city, so make sure to regularly do that. You can then level them up feeding and sending them into battle, and rank them up by collecting dragon shards from quests, chests, and IAPs.

Occasionally, you'll get a relic from a chest or dropped by a monster. You can increase the power of your dragons by equipping them with this. Do it.

Finally, allies are other players that you can hire to assist you. They'll join you in battle and provide extra resources when killing monsters.

You can lose an ally if another player pays them more, but you'll earn a cut of the profits so that's not necessarily a bad thing. You should pay attention to an ally's stats to make sure they're worth it though.

Protect yourself

Stay below the protected resource cap so you don't get raided by other players when you're still relatively new. Additionally, don't turn off your initial protective shield immediately, it's a dangerous world out there!
