Well, this is a pretty big deal, in at least two senses of that word. Activision has bought Candy Crush Saga creator King for an eye-watering $5.9 billion.

To put that in perspective, that means King is worth almost 50% more than Lucasfilm. Candy Crush is more lucrative than Star Wars. Obviously that's a simplification, but sometimes simplifications are fun.

This is a huge move on multiple levels, and shows just how seriously Activision is taking mobile gaming. We've already seen Konami making statements regarding a shift towards a more mobile focused business model, and this is a huge statement of intent from the big A.

What this will mean for consumers is sort of hard to tell. We can't imagine Activision getting rid of King's IP and replacing it with its own, but at the same time Activision has a huge stable of games that we'd love to see on mobile.

As ever, we'll keep you posted on developments as and when they happen. Because we like you.
