If you learn anything from playing Jump Dewds!, it's that islands are geological formations created by lava.

Jump Dewds! takes place on one such lava-laden island, and features a host of adorable characters leaping skyward to catch an endless deluge of coins being belched out of a volcano.

Interestingly, the lava rarely comes at you from above, but rather broils beneath the brittle surface of every game level waiting for a wayward coin to crack the earth's crust and set it free.

To prevent this from happening, you must run and jump in a madcap quest to collect these coins before they can destroy the ground beneath your feet.

It's a fun and challenging game, for a little while at least.

Jump up, jump up, and get down

One of the most appealing qualities of Jump Dewds! is the range and variety of the playable characters. Although they resemble little more than colorful anthropomorphic meatballs, each dewd has its own unique playstyle.

This claim might be hard to believe, considering that Jump Dewds! is a simple tap-to-jump arcade style game, but each dewd really does handle differently.

Some dewds have the ability to double-jump, others can hover at the height of their jumps, and still others can teleport around the screen. All of these abilities are handy for nabbing coins as they fall from above.

Pack it up, pack it in

Each dewd is unlocked with the coins that you collect, and so are the levels that you play through. These coins can be earned through basic play, or purchased in-game for the impatient completists out there.

While Jump Dewds! doesn't force you into in-app purchases, you will need to devote a good amount of playing time to unlock everything in the game without a little help from the almighty dollar, and this is where the Jump Dewds! really starts to fall down.

After a few hours of playing, the cute novelty of Jump Dewds! wears off and you realise that you're stuck in a loop - you collect coins that you then use to unlock other characters that will help you collect more coins.

It's not that Jump Dewds! is a bad game - far from it - but it struggles to offer the depth and challenge required to access every unlockable that it has to offer.

Jump Dewds!

An engrossing, if repetitive, tap-to-jump title that offers a wide variety of gameplay and challenge in a simple package
