App Army Assemble: It's a Space Thing

Space Invaders meets bullet hell

| It's a Space Thing

It's a Space Thing is a slick combo of Space Invaders and a bullet hell shooter, and it just launched on iOS and Android. You play as a cute little spaceman who has to vertically shoot a variety of enemies. They'll be firing right back at you though, so make sure to pop up a collection of shields to keep you safe.

With high scores to chase, bosses to beat, and a bunch of missions to complete - not to mention same device multiplayer - there's plenty of game here for those into their shooters. Or space.

At review, we said: "It's a Space Thing may be fast and fun for a short time, but its ultimately too hard and shallow to last."

But don't just take our word for it - read on to learn what our hardened team of mobile gaming experts in the App Army thought.

Chanandler

This is pretty good fun - it's a bit like Space Invaders on steroids. I need to find someone else to play against as I reckon this could be hilarious in multiplayer.

You can record the screen which is pretty cool. Now I just need to get better at the game - although being rubbish does keep the video file sizes down.

Erik Choong

I'd go to this to let off some steam after work (or during breaks). The fast paced action keeps your reflexes on the edge as you try to outdo yourself with each replay. Boss Mode is frustratingly difficult though, but you can progress with enough practice.

James Rooney

It's a Space Thing is fast and difficult but I kept coming back for more. It's very polished and fun.

Randy Hope

I've never been called a straight baller before. That was very exciting.

It's a Space Thing succeeds at what it set out to do. It's super fast and hard, with a simple and satisfying mechanic, nice music, and lovely pixel visuals.

It's just a little too difficult though, and the video ads pop up too frequently. Overall, I don't think I enjoyed it enough to buy it. It's cool, but the skill entry level is too high.

Edward Davis

The pace of the game and the music fit really well together. The idea is simple enough that you can pick up and play in seconds.

It gets a bit repetitive over time but that didn't really put me off playing.

Kainen Ryan

I found it a bit too repetitive, and even avoided using shields to make it more challenging. The boss fights don't offer much variety either. I'm not getting that just one more go feeling.

Swapnil Jadhav

It's good but a bit repetitive - though not enough to put me off playing. I'd like a few more powers and obstacles though.
