The fight has come to iOS in card-based DC brawler Injustice: Gods Among Us

DC's most popular comic book heroes are playing the hand they've been dealt in newly released iOS card-based brawler Injustice: Gods Among Us.

This free companion to the upcoming console game lets you duke it out with iconic characters like Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, and The Flash on your iPhone or iPad.

Unlike the home console version - which is a straight up fighter - the iOS port is a fusion of gesture-controlled fighting and collectible card game mechanics.

The combat in Injustice: Gods Among Us takes the form of three-on-three bouts. Control-wise, it's similar to NetherRealm's previous DC tie-in, Batman Arkham City Lockdown.

To attack your flamboyantly dressed foe you must tap the screen, inputting gesture commands like swipes for more complicated moves when prompted.

There's also a tiered special move power bar which charges as you fight, letting you unleash some of the devastating attacks from the home console version.

So far, so brawler. However, each character in Injustice: Gods Among Us is represented by a card. These cards can be collected and levelled-up. The more cards you have, the larger your roster of playable heroes will be.

It's also worth noting that your progress on iOS will unlock features in the home console version, giving completionists an extra incentive to give this free app a bash.

You can download Injustice: Gods Among Us free on iPhone and iPad right now. You can spend cash on extra cards, booster packs, or energy re-fills when your fighters run out of steam.
