At midnight tonight, Enigmo: Explore developer Team Chaos will resurrect, reinvent, and practically ruin long-dormant iOS series I Dig It in I Dig It: Journey to the Core.

Like those ancient iPhone games, Journey to the Core puts you behind the wheel of a chunky tank with a drill on its nose, and asks you to bore deep into the ground. You have to then return found treasure and loot to the surface for a cash reward.

New for this spiritual successor is a dynamic fluid system, where your digging will displace and re-route liquids like water, lava, and oil. Plus, the game is now split into 100-odd mini-missions, rather than hours-long campaigns.

But other changes are less welcome. For example, this game has been lumbered with almost every free-to-play mechanic in the book, including multiple currencies, an economy driven by grind, boosts, paid-for resurrections, wait timers, level gates, and an energy system.

You can see all that in our sombre PG First Play video preview above. Or wait for the full review. Or just go download I Dig It: Journey to the Core when it hits the UK and US App Stores at around midnight, and cry yourself to sleep.
