Square Enix Montreal dropped a pocket-sized bombshell on Hitman fans with the announcement of Hitman GO, an upcoming strategy game for smartphones and tablets.

The team at SE Montreal said it had "total creative freedom" to explore the title, and did its best to create a game which was different, but still "retained the essence of what a Hitman game is".

Hitman GO is a turn-based strategy game which features artistically rendered diorama-style set piece. Gameplay focuses on navigating fixed spaces on the board to avoid enemies and sneak into well-guarded locations.

Go go gadget Hitman

"You really have to think about each move and all the Hitman tools of the trade you would expect are included; disguises, distractions, sniper rifles and even 47's iconic Silverballers", Square Enix Montreal noted before letting slip that Hitman GO is almost ready for launch.

The post announcing Hitman GO also teased that there might be more coming out of Montreal soon.

Details on this point were light, but the developer noted that it's working on "something else" that "fits perfectly within the Hitman fantasy".

Hitman Chutes and Ladders, maybe? Hitman Candyland? We'll just have to wait and see.

Jokes aside, Hitman GO looks like an interesting and aesthetically pleasing game. We'll definitely keep you posted on its development as more information's made available.
