It’s hard to imagine what adding a third dimension to a line-drawing game could do to benefit it. If Harbor Havoc 3D offers any sort of an answer to that question it’s: not much, but that doesn’t stop the game innovating in other ways.

The key distinction here is that the various seafaring vehicles that chunder relentlessly onto the play area do so below, at, and above sea level. A heady swarm of submarines, tankers and helicopters soon stretch your multi-tasking skills, as you need to trace lines on the screen between each vehicle and its respective home.

The aim is to dock, land and berth as many vehicles as possible, without allowing any to collide. The fact that different vehicles occupy different planes means that some of them cannot collide with one another, even though their paths appear to intersect.

It’s a clever idea that allows for many more vehicles on screen at once, with the challenge being to ensure you're not taking longer to deal with vehicles by accidentally tracking paths for them that avoid vehicles that aren't a threat.

It’s an immediate and pitiless challenge that will provide something for committed line-drawers to really get their teeth into.

If there's anything about Harbor Havoc that confounds by flaw rather than design, it’s the fact that vehicles and their respective goals are not colour coded. Instead you need to tap on a vehicle, which then causes its goal to flash.

Vehicles of the same type always match the same goal, but with so many on screen at once you have to remind yourself with a tap annoyingly often, sometimes resulting in the loss of just enough time to be overwhelmed by the heavy traffic.

It may not be for the faint of heart, then, but with several different stages, gorgeous detailed graphics, and Twitter, Facebook Connect and Plus+ options for score sharing, Harbor Havoc 3D is definitely a watertight package.
