Bungie to bring Halo to iPhone?

Maybe they're just being nice to their staff

Product: Halo (iPhone) | Developer: Bungie | Genre: 3D, Action, Conversion
Alright kids, rumour time. Bungie is bringing Halo to iPhone.

That's right, a touchscreen-toting motion-sensing version of Halo, probably with wi-fi deathmatches. And stuff.

Says who? Blog All About iPhone has floated the idea, based on the news that Bungie is giving all its staff free iPhones. Generous gesture or a sign that it's planning to develop for Apple's handset?

The blog thinks the latter, on the basis that the iPhone platform is going to be popular, that it can compete with DS and PSP on hardware grounds, because lots of other big games firms are making games for it, and because Bungie isn't tied to Microsoft any more.

Allow us to be cynical for a moment. The DS/PSP point would make more sense if Bungie was developing for those platforms (nobody knows), while Halo as a brand DOES still belong to Microsoft, who'd presumably be keener to see it as a Windows Mobile game.

But suspending our disbelief for a moment, could Halo work as an iPhone game? Existing demos of titles like IUGO's Re-Volt show that the iPhone can handle first-person shooters, after all. But could it do a brand like Halo justice? The jury's out.

That said, the idea of Bungie making something for iPhone is far more believable, given the developer started out making Mac games.

Watch this space, just don't get your hopes up about it being filled by Master Chief anytime soon.

Sorry to pop your guys' bubble but its just a rumor. Halo and all things relating to Halo are owned by Microsoft. Bungie just helps I think. I've heard something about before. They were also going to make on the DS I heard but it didn't happen.(http://ds.ign.com/objects/874/874110.html) I love playing halo but consider this: Microsoft and Mac are basically enemies. Why would Microsoft give Mac Halo, which makes a lot of money. Bill Gates might as well give Steve Jobs millions of dollars.
