Gundam Battle: Gunpla Warfare stealth launches a month ahead of its planned release date

Almost a full month ahead of its planned release on August 21st, Bandai Namco’s mecha battler Gundam Battle: Gunpla Warfare has popped up on both the App Store and Google Play. I’m not quite sure why this is the case, but I’m taking it as a positive.

It’s the latest entry in the popular Gundam Battle series whose games have previously appeared on PSP, PS Vita, PS3, and PS4. This one is known as Gundam Breaker Mobile over in Japan, and it’s a 3D action game that sees you collecting parts and customising your very own Gundam plastic models which are known here as Gunpla.

The customisation and creation options on offer seem fairly impressive, with recognisable parts and upgrades from well over 25 Gundam anime series. There’s a story mode which you can work your way through in order to unlock more options to personalise, upgrade, and apply unique paint jobs to your favourites.

Once you’re fairly confident that your Gunpla is battle-ready, you can test them out against other players’ creations online, with the ultimate goal of winning the Gunpla Battle Tournament.

The combat here is relatively straightforward, with the option to switch to auto-battle mode, though you’ll find a surprising amount of hidden depth to its systems. The most interesting thing about its combat is likely the create-your-own-combo system which lets you get all experimental with your mixing of melee and long-ranged attacks.

When we originally covered the game, we mentioned the pre-registration goals. Well, it’s topped 200,000 which means all players get an in-game Gundam and Wing Gundam. It doesn’t look like it quite hit 300,000 which would have resulted in everyone getting the Amuro Ray and Heero Yuy characters. You can read more about all that sorta stuff over on the game’s official site.

If it sounds like a good time to you, Gundam Battle: Gunpla Warfare is now available for download over on both the App Store and Google Play.
