Rockstar: Grand Theft Auto III: 10th Anniversary Edition coming to 'single core iOS devices in the future'

As frustrating as it was for iPhone 4 owners, there was something fitting about Rockstar's initial announcement that the release of Grand Theft Auto III: 10th Anniversary on iOS would be limited to iPhone 4S and iPad 2.

Here was a console classic of old, originally credited with selling PlayStation 2 to the masses back in 2001, yet again being used to spearhead new gaming hardware.

Rockstar has been quick to react to the inevitable moans and groans, however, issuing a short and sharp statement signalling its intention to extend Liberty City's latest splash beyond A5-equipped devices.

Speaking to Kotaku, the studio confirmed it will launch Grand Theft Auto III: 10th Anniversary on, "single core iOS devices in the future".

No specific models have been named, but it's fairly likely iPhone 4, original iPad, and fourth-generation iPod touch owners will see GTA III pop up on the App Store at some point in the future, based on Rockstar's current stance.

The studio had also previously announced support for a number of Android handsets, including Droid X2, HTC Evo 2, LG Optimus 2X, Motorola Atrix, Samsung Galaxy S2, plus Android powered tablets Acer Iconia, Asus Eee Pad, Motorola Xoom, and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.
