"YOU are about to PLAY GOD," shouts the description of Peter Molyneux's "invest-to-play" god game, Godus, officially released on the App Store today as a free download.

Godus puts the power of omnipotence in the player's hands, literally, using an intuitive touch-based control system that lets players shape, sculpt, and destroy their game's world with a few simple swipes.

The world of Godus isn't just a sandbox to manipulate arbitrarily, though. As a god, players must nurture their world's tiny worshippers throughout their civilization's history, while also harvesting Belief points to maintain their divine power.

Our preview of Godus from this year's GDC called it a "serene, expansive experience." While the game is free to play, Molyneux told Pocket Gamer in March, "We want you to want to spend money on Godus, but you'll never need to spend money."

Try Godus out for yourself on iOS now.
